Lorena Emma Clara Stemmann, age 98, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Red Wing. She was born on September 2, 1915, in Goodhue Township, to William and Mary (Reese) Vieths and was baptized the same day by Pastor Naumann. She attended St. John's Parochial School in Goodhue and was confirmed on June 2, 1929, by Pastor Weindorf. She was united in marriage to Rudy Stemmann in rural Goodhue, on June 2, 1939. The couple farmed together in Belvidere Township for 51 years and in 1990 they moved to Red Wing. Rudy died on December 16, 1995. Lorena was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she had been active in its Ladies' Aid and had served as their pianist. She enjoyed crocheting and has crocheted hundreds of little hats for newborn babies at the Red Wing Hospital through the Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially 500, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her two sons, Neil (Karen) Stemmann of Red Wing and Eugene (Shelia) Stemmann of Corvallis, OR; two grandchildren, Rick (Shelly) Stemmann of Somerset, Wisc., and Andrea (Bill) Emery of Hager City, WI; four great grandchildren, Billy, Quinn and Joey Emery and Alina Stemmann. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Edwin and Harry Vieths; and three sisters, Esther Diercks, Gertrude Dicke and Irma Vieths.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek, with Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4- 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church or the Goodhue History Center.
