Loraine Marie Vettel

March 1, 1939 — October 28, 2020

Loraine M Vettel passed peacefully on October 28th at Pine Haven Care Center where she had been living since March.

Loraine was born March 1, 1939 to Leslie and Nellie (Aljets) Leoboldt in Carrington, ND.

She attended grade school in Edmunds, ND and graduated from Jamestown High School.

She married Gerald M Vettel on June 5th, 1961. They moved to El Paso, Texas for a year before moving to Pine Island, MN where they settled permanently and raised their three children.

Loraine enjoyed gardening, she was usually found outside working on her flowerbeds during a nice day.

She loved music: filling her house with the sounds of classical recordings, playing piano, attending as many musical performances as she could and was a member of PAPA (Pine Area People for the Arts). She graduated with an Associates degree in music from Rochester Community College.

She also was an avid reader, her shelves full of books. She enjoyed sharing this love with younger generations, working for twenty years as a librarian at the Pine Island Elementary School library.

Loraine was an active participant in her community. She worked with the 1980 census, was in the Lions Club, was active in founding the Pine Island Historical Society, in the Progress Club, in the American Field Services, a Girl Scout leader, and a 30 year member of Toastmasters.

Loraine is survived by her sister Marion (Ron) Floyd, husband Gerald Vettel, daughter Esther (Peter) Boettger, sons John Vettel and Carl (Trina) Vettel; grandchildren Adam Vettel, Kathleen (Jonathan) Vogel, George Boettger, Micheal Boettger, and Elizabeth Boettger; and great-grandson Alexander Vogel.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Leoboldt, sister Barbara Nohrenberg, and grandson David Vettel.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
