Lois "Jean" (Yennie) Scripture

July 6, 1943 — December 27, 2020

Lois "Jean" (Yennie) Scripture, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on July 6, 1943 on a farm near Pine Island to Henry and Erma Yennie. Lois contracted polio at age 3. But polio didn't stop her from going to school at age 4 and graduating from Pine Island High School, class of '60, and carrying the honor of co-valedictorian of her class. She then went on to Luther College and travelled Europe with Weston Noble and the Luther College Concert Band. She transferred to San Jose State College in California where she graduated in 1964, at age 20, with a Bachelor's Degree in sociology and a minor in psychology.
She went to the University of MN where she received her Master of Social Work degree at the young age of 22. Lois worked as a social worker at the Rochester State Hospital, Rochester Health Care Center, Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth, Pine Haven Care Center and Evergreen Place.
She married Jim Scripture of Rochester on January 31, 1970. Together they had 2 children, Dave and Anne and also have six wonderful grandchildren.
Lois helped develop Pine Island Area Home Services, a living-at-home/ block nurse program.
After retiring, she volunteered for Heartland Hospice and brought comfort and God's message to many people in need. She was a prayer partner with Timothy Greenslade of In Faith, who brings Christ's message to people in nursing homes.
When debilitating pain kept her in bed in November 2019, Lois ministered to countless more people. She turned her bedroom into "The Prayer Room", where people sought prayer and found peace and love.
Her life's message is: The greater our weakness, the more grace God will give to accomplish His will. He gives the strength to live, to work for Him, and to endure suffering.
She lived this as God spoke to her in 2 Corinthians 12:9, "My Grace is Sufficient".
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Erma, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Survivors include; her husband Jim; son, Dave (Teresa); daughter Anne (Ryan) Daly, six amazing grandchildren whom she adored and cherished.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Pine Island Area Home Services and Heartland Hospice.

Blessed be her memory.
