Lake City

Lois Ione Schrimpf, 93 of Lake City, passed away March 27, 2025 at her home. She was born on March 1, 1932 to George and Della (Koenig) Schutz in North Freedom, WI. Her early years were spent around Baraboo, WI. She attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN, where she trained to become a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod teacher. After graduation, she taught in Algoma, WI before accepting a call to St. John's Lutheran School in Lake City, MN, where she taught until 2002. At St. John’s, she met Ralph Schrimpf, a dairy farmer who was serving as treasurer for the church. They were married in 1958 in Baraboo. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter, who was stillborn. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She influenced many students, who she loved dearly, during her teaching career. She and Ralph lived on a farm in rural Lake City until 1990, when they moved into their dream home in the woods near Lake Pepin. She was passionate about her faith, her family, and teaching. She also loved reading, walking, playing games, and her home. She had a compelling sense of humor, which often took a while to figure out. She was blessed by having wonderful caretakers for the last years of her life.

Lois is survived by sons, Ron (Kathy) Schrimpf of Nashville, TN and Jim (Becky) Schrimpf of Nogales, AZ; grandchildren, Matt Schrimpf and his wife Carmen James, Natalie Schrimpf and her husband Mike Kasper, Ryan Schrimpf, and Danny Schrimpf and his wife Stasi; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Schrimpf, Margo Schrimpf, and William Kasper; sisters-in-law, Delores Schrimpf of Lake City and Lois Schrimpf of Goodhue; many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph; daughter Jane; and sisters Lucille, Eunice, and Wanda.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. Visitation will be one hour prior, at the church.
