Lois M. Firl, 79, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at her home. She was born August 26, 1930 to William and Edna (Pohl) Richter. She grew up on the family farm and attended schools in rural Red Wing. She married Leslie Firl on December 26, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active with the altar guild and also helped serve for funeral luncheons. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, camping, fishing, and babysitting her grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their motor home and taking bus tours across the United States. Her family remembers her meticulous nature when working outdoors and tending to her yard work.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie; two sons, Jerry (Linda) Firl of Hager City and Craig (Lynn) Firl of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Devin and Megan Firl; two sisters, Beverly Richter of Red Wing and Lorena (Ronald) Traynor of Ellsworth; one brother, Neil Richter of Red Wing, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Michael Firl, and one sister, Joan Richter.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
