Lois Louise Firl, 83, of Red Wing passed away peacefully at Red Wing Health Center on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Lois was born October 29, 1929, in Red Wing to Otto and Christine (Loer) Plifka. After graduating from Red Wing High School, Lois was employed for 43 years at Red Wing Shoe Company.
Lois married Alvin Herbert Firl on December 16, 1950, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They purchased a home on East Avenue in Red Wing and lived there for over fifty years.
Lois was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards, solving word puzzles, and doing cross stitch. She enjoyed following the Twins baseball team. She also caught countless fish at the family cabin at Turtle Lake, WI.
Lois is survived by her husband, Alvin; son, Allen (Jan) Firl of Rochester; daughters, Holly (Kris) Larsen of Spooner, WI, and Linda (Jon) Nibbe of Chaska; grandchildren, Janelle (Tim) Bonnes of Rochester, Allison Firl of Rochester, Dr. Torben Larsen of La Crosse, WI, Bjorn Larsen of Duluth, Steven Nibbe of Chaska, and Jason Nibbe of Chaska; great-granddaughter, Morgan Bonnes of Rochester; sister, June Veith of Red Wing; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald (Veryl) Firl of Rochester, Kenneth (Marcy) Firl of Onalaska, WI, Leslie Firl of Red Wing, Dale Firl of Eagan, Rodney (Carolyn) Firl of Sammamish, WA, John Firl of Branson, MO, Dean (Jean) Firl of Andover, Marlene Moosmann of Stewartville, Mary Louise (Ron) Olson of Stewartville, and Marlys (Dave) Kahl of New York Mills; and many nephews and nieces.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duane (Lucy) Firl, Jack Moosmann, Rita Firl, Lois Firl, and Dale Veith.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
