Lois Ann Barry, 89, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Valentines Assisted Living, surrounded by her children.
She was born October 5, 1929 in Red Wing to Hayes and Esther (Johnson) Trudeaux. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1947. She married Patrick Barry on February 7, 1949. Together they raised 8 children. Lois worked at Mary's Supper Club and Mississippi National Golf Links but her primary occupation was creating a loving home for her children and later, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful baker and cook. Her homemade bread, buns and peanut brittle will be greatly missed at family gatherings. Lois gave generously of herself and of her time. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph as well as many other organizations, including Faith in Action, The Salvation Army Board, St. Anne's Society, the Red Wing Baseball Association, the Red Wing Seniors and served as an election judge. Lois also enjoyed playing cards, was a member of the "In-Betweener" bowling league, a co-founder of the famed "Lois Club," a Pocahontas member and was the first woman inducted into the Red Wing Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. She loved supporting Red Wing high school sports and she graced the bleachers of many baseball, basketball, football and hockey games. She also traveled to Korea, through Lutheran Social Services, to escort orphaned children to the United States and into the arms of their adoptive families. Lois took care to make sure the people in her life knew she loved them. While she always sent a card for birthdays, memorials and other life events, she also made a point to send weekly handwritten letters to her grandchildren away at college.
She will be missed by many, including her 7 children; Rhea (David) Miller of Northfield, Michael (Sue) Barry of Red Wing, Ann (Bob) Andersen of Red Wing, Daniel (Karen) Barry of Red Wing, Joseph Barry of Inver Grove Heights, Shannon (Ed) Krawiecki of Red Wing and Janet (Rick Squire) Stewart of Red Wing; daughter-in-law, Susan M. Barry of Red Wing; 15 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Taylor of Red Wing; step-brother, Dick (Donna) Langworthy of Red Wing; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; son, Thomas; step-grandson, Brandon Stewart; great-grandson, Joseph Inveen; brother, James Trudeaux; sister, Betty Card and her parents.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service at church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Area Food Shelf or the Church of St. Joseph.
