Lloyd Paul Cordes

Lloyd P. Cordes, 86, of Wanamingo, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Zumbrota Care Center.
A private graveside service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wanamingo at a future date.
Lloyd Paul, son of Mabel (Stehr) and Paul Cordes was born on December 11, 1933 in Red Wing, MN. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN.
He graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1952. During his high school days, he was student manager with the basketball team that went to the State Tournament. After high school it was found that he needed heart surgery for a Coarctation of the Aorta, a congenital birth defect. In 1953 he was one of the first patients to have heart surgery at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. After meeting at a 4-H event he married Avis Berg on September 14, 1956. They raised three children. Lloyd gave his entire life to farming the land of his parents in Cherry Grove Township, dairy cows and most importantly his family. He was a long-time active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, MN. He and Avis enjoyed traveling around the world with the U of MN Extension Service and experienced farming techniques of those areas. He worked tirelessly on the Goodhue County Fair Board for 42 years. He served on the Zumbrota Bank Board for many years. He also sold insurance for the Wanamingo Mutual Agency. In 2012, Lloyd received the Goodhue County Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, raising chickens, and some golfing (or "pasture pool" as he would call it). One of his favorite memories he would talk about was his childhood memory of his pony Johnny. But most of all he loved and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lloyd will greatly be missed by his three children, Cynthia (Alvin) Stabenow of New Ulm, MN, Scott (Jill) Cordes of Roseville, MN, John (Angie) Cordes of Wanamingo, MN; six grandchildren, Rachel (Cameron) Japuntich, Shannon (Henrik) Wood, Allison Cordes, Adam (Courtney) Cordes, Kasey (Brian) Cordes, Nathan (Michelle) Cordes; seven great-grandchildren, Paul and Ann Japuntich, McKenzie, Chase, and Emily Cordes, Addyson and Brinley Cordes; sister, Audrey Cordes of Zumbrota, MN; brother, Robert (Audrey) Cordes of Montgomery, AL; sister-in-law, LouAnn (Harlan) Jopp of Clearwater, MN; brothers-in-law, Gunder Froyum of Wanamingo, MN and Floyd Buhler of Colorado Springs, CO; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Pearlner Thompson; wife, Avis in 2018; sister, Elaine Froyum; and sister-in-law, Grace Buhler.
