Lillian Dorothy Olson, 87, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at her home. She was born December 24, 1920 in Minneapolis, to Edward and Rosalie (Locklund) Shaffer. She attended Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. On October 18, 1939, she married Lawrence "Larry" Olson. They lived in Minneapolis where she worked at various businesses. They moved to California, where they lived for 3 years and then returned to Minneapolis. She worked as a food service supervisor for 20 years. In 1987, they moved to Red Wing, residing at their daughter's farm and worked in housekeeping at the Cannon Falls Hospital. Larry died July 14, 1998. She attended First Covenant Church, where she was involved with mission projects. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and reading. Her family will always remember her for the delight she took in her family and her hardworking spirit and loving disposition
She is survived by three sons, Larry (Sue) Olson of Newport, Lee (Joanne) Olson of Apple Valley and Les (Lynn) Olson of Issaquah, Washington; one daughter, Lori (Dick) Treptow of Red Wing; special friend, Dick Dalen of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence; two sisters, Mabel Shaffer and Helen Wright and a great-grandson, Rayce Olson.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Covenant Church with Reverend Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry, Les and Lee Olson, Dick Treptow, Emmy Hartman and Evie Christensen. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
