Lewis John Rich, age 88 of Lake City, died on February 15, 2012 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester. Lewis was born on August 30, 1923 to John and Alma (Mueske) Rich in Oronoco, MN. He grew up in Mazeppa and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941. He served in WWII and was stationed on the destroyer "Wilson" in the Pacific. After the Navy, he moved to Rochester where he was a Bellman at the Kahler Hotel for 42 years. He married Adeline Brehmer in April 1946. Adeline died on February 26, 1987. He married Helen (Dohrn) Roerish on March 19, 1988 in Rochester. After his retirement from the Kahler Hotel in 1989, they moved to Lake City. Lewis was a good farmer and loved to fish, play cards, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Lewis was a member of the First Congregational Church in Lake City and the Lake City VFW Post # 8729.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Helen Rich; five children, Diane Shanks of Rochester, David (Judy) Rich of Rochester, Dennis Rich of Cresco, IA, Duane (Sue) Rich of Rochester, Dean Rich of Rochester; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Culbertson of Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jason Rich; one brother and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at First Congregational Church in Lake City with Reverend David Badgley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, February 19 from 1:00-4:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Grand View Memorial Gardens in Rochester following the service. Memorials preferred to First Congregational Church.
