Lester A. "Pete" Gullickson age 88 of Zumbrota formerly of Mazeppa died on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Zumbrota Health Services. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Phil Shaw of New Life Worship Center officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #588 and the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Squad. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 5:00 ? 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
Lester Arnold Gullickson was born on December 29, 1919 in Grantsburg, WI to Gulick and Vera (nee Ruport) Gullickson. He grew up in Dodge County and attended country school. On August 7, 1942 he married Delores "Sis" Noser in Concord, MN. They made their home near Pine Island. On October 7, 1944 he entered the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged on July 20, 1946. They returned to the Pine Island area and in the early 1950's they moved to a farm near Mazeppa. Pete worked as a mechanic and truck foreman for Woodrich Construction for eighteen years. They also owned and operated restaurants in Pine Island and Mazeppa. They also owned the Wagon Wheel Restaurant and Southside Grocery Store n Zumbrota. Pete also farmed and operated a gravel pit near his home. He enjoyed tinkering around the farm and horses. Pete was a member of the American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa and the Woodville Chapel in rural Mazeppa.
Pete is survived by his children, Larry Gullickson of Mazeppa, Gary (Sharon) Gullickson of Rochester, Mary (Wes) Voeltz of Zumbrota, Jerry Gullickson and Terry Gullickson, both of Mazeppa, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, one brother, Richard (Joanne) Gullickson of Owatonna, two sisters, Avis Spielde of Owatonna and Phyllis Elias of Zumbrota. Pete was preceded in death by his wife Delores, two brothers, Russell and Gerald, one sister, Blanche and two grandsons, Blaine and Jerome
