Lester E. Greseth, age 80 of Wanamingo passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Inurnment will be at 1:30 PM in Lands Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wanamingo Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lester Elroy Greseth was born on July 23, 1933 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, MN to Olaf and Clara (nee Thompson) Greseth. He grew up on the farm, attended country school and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1951. He worked for several years at Osborne McMellan Elevator. On March 10, 1952 he entered the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict. On September 3, 1955 he married Maxine Avis Nesseth of Kenyon. Lester was honorably discharged on October 14, 1957 and they returned to Wanamingo. Lester returned to his job at Osborne McMellan Elevator. Lester retired in 2000 after working for Cenex for forty years. The majority of those years he was the general manager. Lester enjoyed serving his community by being involved with the Wanamingo Lions, volunteer fire department, commercial club and Quamme VFW Post #186.
Lester was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church and devoted many hours in serving the Lord in various roles within the church and on the Cemetery board.
Lester was very passionate about Minnesota sports teams, as well as high school and local sports. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and socializing with friends and family. He loved his family, especially the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Lester is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Maxine; children, Kimberly (Brian) Sevareid of Mitchell, SD, Jeff (Karen) Greseth of Lakeville, Brenda (Brian) Gunhus of Zumbrota and Heidi McGuire of Sioux Rapids, IA; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Ordean (Bonnie) Greseth of Wanamingo.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Rocek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lands Lutheran Church or Lands Cemetery.
