Lester Clarence Boldt

Lester C. Boldt, 96, of Red Wing, died January 29, 2014, in his home at the Villa at Hi Park. He was born September 23, 1917 in Hay Creek Township to Benjamin and Elda (Santelman) Boldt. He attended school in Hay Creek Township. After school he did farm work before going to work at the Red Wing Creamery. After the Creamery closed he worked for the S. B. Foot Tannery, retiring in 1979 after 27 years. On September 3, 1938 he married Irene Miller in Decorah, Iowa. The couple eventually made their home in Red Wing and were members of First United Methodist Church. Lester enjoyed watching many sports, especially baseball. He followed the Minnesota Twins, but especially loved watching and following his great grandsons' baseball games. He would keep the newspaper close at hand so his visitors could enjoy the articles and photos.
He also loved to play cards with his Villa friends. He will be remembered as a snappy dresser and be missed around the card table and by all those he befriended.
He is survived by his son, Dick (Marilyn) Boldt of Cook; six grandchildren, Mitch (Chris) Boldt of Red Wing, Adrienne Watts of Mankato, Annette (Jim) Ernster of Denver, Wade (Sheryle) Boldt of Red Wing, Scott (Mandi) Boldt of Mazeppa and Monica (Wilie) Root of Red Wing; 23 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, daughter-in-law, Gloria of Red Wing and one brother, Bud( Sumner) of Red Wing.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; son, Roger; one brother, Jessie; five sisters, Verna Malner, Jean Merriman, Beatrice Wagner, Beryl Swanson and Marion Odman and two great grandsons, Austin Erie and Cody Boldt.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Villa at Hi Park Chapel. Debbie Bradley and Rev. Greg Strunk will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Memorials are preferred to the St. Brigid's at Hi Park Foundation.
