LeRoy Carl Peterson, 76, of Welch, died Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 20, 1948, in Red Wing, to Carl and Mrytle (Johnson) Peterson. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1966. For six years he served in the Army Reserves. LeRoy farmed many years on the family farm. He milked cows for 30 years and then continued crop farming and sold hay to beef and horse buyers. On September 26, 1987, on a beautiful autumn day, he was united in marriage to Gail Brage. Five years later they welcomed their son, Andy. LeRoy was the custodian at Cannon River Lutheran Church for a number of years, served on the church council and mowed the “old church cemetery”. LeRoy had a great appreciation for the land and enjoyed farming, especially planting and harvesting, teaching Andy all about farm machinery and the aspects of farming.
LeRoy is survived by his loving wife Gail of 38 years; one son, Andy; three brothers, Lloyd (Julia) Peterson, James (Rob Gambone) Peterson and Robert (Julie) Peterson; one sister, Janis Rolli; sister-in-law, Bonnie Peterson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald and one brother-in-law, Everett Rolli.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Cannon River Lutheran Church rural Cannon Falls with Reverend CJ Boettcher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to the Cannon River Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice, Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
