Leonard C. ?Peck? Markham age 84 of Oronoco died unexpectedly on Monday morning, March 5, 2007 at his home in Oronoco. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 9, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco with Reverend Paul Baldauf officiating. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery with military honors provided by the combined squads of Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island and Swanson-Owens VFW Post # 9647 of Oronoco. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 4:30 ? 7:30 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Leonard Clair Markham was born on January 22, 1923 in Sumner Township, Fillmore County, MN to Bernie and Mabel (nee Stopple) Markham. He attended school in Marion Township and Coon Grove. On December 13, 1944 he entered the U.S. Army, served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1946. On November 21, 1946 he married Myra Marie Mohlke at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco and they made their home in Oronoco. Peck spent some time delivering milk and hauling for farmers. He then owned and operated L.C. Markham Trucking for approximately thirty years. Following his retirement from his business, he worked as a caretaker for the Oronoco Cemetery for twelve years. Peck is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myra, one daughter, Jane (Dick) Walker of Oronoco, one son, Ron (Joanne) Markham of Rochester, four grandchildren, Dan (Darcie) Walker of Oak Creek, WI, Joleen (Justin) Predmore of Pine Island, Nikki Markham of Roseville, and Stacy Markham of Eau Claire, WI, three great-grandchildren, Cade and Shaelyn Predmore of Pine Island and MacKenzie Walker of Oak Creek, WI, four brothers, Vernon (Eunice) Markham and Bill (Hazel) Markham, both of Oronoco, Bernard (Betty) Markham of Rochester and Leon (Virginia) Markham of Mantorville, and one sister, Doris (Gaylord) Kautz of Oronoco. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Mabel, one brother, Henry Markham and one grandson, David Markham. Peck was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco, Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island and Swanson-Owens VFW Post # 9647 in Oronoco. He loved family, pets and fishing and will be remembered for his hard work, faith, kindness and love for his family. Casketbearers are Dan Walker, Steve Mohlke, Larry Kautz, Dale Wiens, Ron Melton and Tom Markham.
