Leonard B. Brekke age 89 of Wanamingo died on Thursday, June 6, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Urland Lutheran Church with Reverend Charles Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Leonard Burton Brekke was born on March 29, 1918 in Holden Township, Goodhue County, MN to Martin J. and Ida (nee Hanson) Brekke. He grew up in the rural Cannon Falls and Hader
area's and attended country schools. Leonard helped on the farm and toward the end of WW II he moved to Ray, North Dakota. He worked on the oil rigs and did some farming near Ray. In 1957 he moved to the Minneapolis area and worked Swift & Co. Meatpacking in South St. Paul and retired from Plymouth Congregational Church where he worked as a custodian. After his retirement he moved to Wanamingo and in 2005 he entered the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Leonard was a member of Urland Lutheran Church and a former member of the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed horses and horse auctions. Leonard is survived by one sister, Agnes Blakstad of Zumbrota, three nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Myrtle Magee and Junice McCoy and one nephew, Michael McCoy. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
