Leona C. Harder

July 25, 1919 — August 10, 2012

Leona Catherine Harder, 93, of Red Wing, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at St. Brigid's at Hi Park. She was born July 25, 1919 in Hammond, Minnesota to Nicholas James I, and Mary (Werner) Wagner. Her family moved to Red Wing, where she grew up and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. She began working as a secretary at LaGrange Flour Mills and later worked in the accounting department for Red Wing Shoe, until retiring in the 1980's. She married Arnold Harder on August 8, 1970; he died on April 4, 1989. Leona loved to play golf, and was a life-long member of the Red Wing Golf Club and also a member at Mississippi National Golf Links. She was also very active member at the Church of St. Joseph, where she belonged to the St. Anne's Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic minister. Entertaining was something that Leona loved to do, especially for her family, as she lived in the family home almost her entire life. In addition to golf, Leona also enjoyed playing bridge. Her family will fondly remember the delicious sticky buns she used to bake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; four sisters, Christine Hugel, Elizabeth Thorgaard, Gertrude Wagner, and Marie Rose, and one brother, Joseph Wagner. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 16, at the small chapel in the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to the church.
