Leona Alvera Diercks, resident of Red Wing, age 94, died Monday December 14, 2015 at her home at Potter Ridge Assisted Living.
She was born in Rochester, Minnesota on June 30, 1921 to Oscar and Mary (Carstens) Nass of Plainview, Minnesota. She attended school in Plainview until moving to Red Wing where she graduated from Red Wing Central High School. Leona was a confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Red Wing. She married Willis Diercks in Red Wing on October 16, 1948.
She worked at Red Wing Pottery and ran a day care out of her home. Besides being a member of TOPS where she was a past president, she traveled to many 91st Division reunions with Willis. She enjoyed family history, knitting, cross word puzzles, fishing, crocheting and crafting as well as Bingo at Potter Ridge.
Leona is survived by four children, Judy (Larry) Bunke of Winona, Wayne (Debra) Diercks of Rochester, Arlen (Lynn) Diercks of Red Wing, and Sharon (Kevin) Skeeles of Avon Park, Florida; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Wilmar and husband Willis earlier this year.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
