Leon Edward Meacham, 87, of Red Wing, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born on January 24, 1920, in Ellsworth, Wisconsin to Clifford and Mathilda (Zirnheldt) Meacham. He attended schools in Ellsworth and then did carpentry work with his dad. He served in the US Coast Guard from October 14, 1942 to November 28, 1945 during World War II. After his discharge he returned to the Ellsworth area and farmed with his dad. On June 3, 1948, he was married to Marjorie Burdick in Iowa. They lived in Ellsworth for three years moving to Red Wing in 1951. For many years he worked as a steam fitter retiring in 1985 from Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; five children, Nancy (Brian) Scholl of North Mankato, Marianne (Bruce) Yernberg, Terry (Laurie) Meacham and Linda (Thomas) Gade all of Red Wing and Mark (Peggy) Meacham of Goodhue; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Bernard (Wanda) Meacham of Ellsworth; daughter-in-law, Linda Meacham of Red Wing and many numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William and five brothers and sisters. Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2007, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with Father Thomas Kommers presiding. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Terry, Mark, Reese and Ross Meacham. Nancy and Brian Scholl and Tom Gade, Sr. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a legion prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
