Leon James Flynn, 74, of Red Wing, died Saturday, September 19, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1946, in Red Wing to Raymond and Rochelle (Laughnan) Flynn. He graduated in 1964 from Ellsworth High School and then completed his Journeymen’s license in Rochester. Leon served in the US Army from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam Era. On June 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Hauschildt. For 41 years he was an electrician working for various businesses and on construction projects. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, and a past member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. He was also a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 in Red Wing. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and he and Kathy wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida for many years.
Leon is survived by his wife Kathryn of 50 years; one son, Michael (Lisa) Flynn of Ellsworth and one daughter, Angela (Ben Huppert) of Luck, Wis.; two grandchildren, Devon and Madelynn; one sister, Shirley (Roy) Whipple of Hager City; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Robert Flynn and one sister, Dorothy Ekstrom.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. Following the burial a celebration of life will be held at The Bluff’s in Hager City. Social distancing and masks are required.
