Leo Matti

ZUMBROTA - Leo Matti, 91, a retired dairy farmer, died Sunday (Jan. 1, 2012) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Leo Cole Matti was born Mar. 15, 1920 on the family farm in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, MN to William and Caroline (Grothe) Matti. He attended country schools and married Helen Mott on Mar. 14, 1948. The couple farmed in Roscoe Township until moving to rural Zumbrota in 1965 where they operated a dairy farm until retirement. Mrs. Matti died June 16, 1996. Leo enjoyed Old Time Farm Shows and equipment, especially International Harvester Tractors, meeting friends for coffee at the Dairy Queen and Apache Mall, Friday Fish Fries, chocolate candy, and driving his cars. He was a member of the Pine Island Oddfellows Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter, Diana (Gene) Zimmerman of Pine Island; three grandchildren, John (Tanya) Trelstad of Zumbrota; Kimberly Ann Trelstad of San Diego, CA; and Justin Zimmerman of Pine Island; two great grandchildren, Dorian and Delany Trelstad; son-in-law, Bob Trelstad of Wanamingo; and special friend, Gail Harshman of Chatfield. Leo was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter, Carol Ann Trelstad; three sisters; and one brother.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with Rev. Ben Scott officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, and one hour before the service Friday at the Funeral Home.
