Leland L. Lortscher

Leland L. Lortscher, 84, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home. He was born April 12, 1930, to Ervin and Elsie (French) Lortscher in Lake City. He grew up and attended school in Lake City, graduating in 1948. On April 7, 1951 he married Marlys Hattemer. Leland worked for Di-Acro and Canyon Equipment and was also an industrial maintenance instructor at Southeast Technical College in Red Wing. He also worked for the Department of Natural Resources for a short time. He was one of the first volunteer EMTs in Lake City which he served for more than 11 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he held multiple positions, including council president. He was an active bowler, enjoyed fishing and baseball and loved spending time in his flower gardens and was a master carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys; four children, Diane (Russ) Wilke of Neenah, Wis., Steve (Marilyn) Lortscher of Byron, Doreen (Doug) Ross of North Wales, Penn., and Bonnie (Kevin) Luhman of Goodhue; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Ken) Sprick of Zumbro Falls; two foreign exchange students, Faye (Leroy) Wharton-Parris of Barbados and Doris Jensen of New Zealand; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl Lortscher.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend John Berg officiating. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m., Monday, April 6, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson Peterson Chapel, Lake City and one hour prior to the service at church.
