Leland LeRoy Hanson, age 85, of Red Wing, died Sunday, October 26, 2008, at his home. He was born on September 27, 1923, in Pierce County, Wisconsin, to Reuben and Grace (Hildreth) Hanson. He attended schools in Ellsworth and Prescott. For a number of years, he helped on farms and drove for an army base in South Dakota. He married Virginia Stein on June 18, 1949, at Lund Covenant Church. He worked for S.B. Foot Tanning Company for thirty-seven years and he also drove school bus for Lee Lines. He retired in 1985. He was a member of First Covenant Church where he served on several boards. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and attending high school sports events.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Red Wing; two daughters Jody (Gary) Ashley of Ramsey and Jill (Kevin) Frazier of Red Wing; two sons Joel (Barb) Hanson of Red Wing and John (Mary) Hanson of Hager City; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother Reuben (Marji) Hanson of Chicago; two sisters Bernice Johnson of Chicago and Ruby Hanson of Chicago; one sister-in-law Betty Hanson of Red Wing; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Beverly; one brother Boyd Hanson; and one sister Leila May Edblom.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Covenant Church with Reverend Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Lund Covenant Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Reinhart, Kurt Hanson, Tyler Hanson, Jeff Hesselman, Josh Brookshaw and Troy Marsh. Honorary pallbearers will be Trina Marsh, Megan Hesselman, Jada Brookshaw, Brynn and Deidre Reinhart, Chelsea Hanson and Kayla Frazier. Visitation will be from 4 � 7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the time of services Friday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church or the donor's choice.
