Funeral services for Leila Ruegg will be held Saturday November 15th at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island. The Reverend John Torris Lohre and the Reverend Kip Groettum will co-officiate. Burial will follow at the Pine Island Cemetery. Mrs. Ruegg, 86, of Pine Island, died Wednesday November 12, 2008 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Leila Sigrid Stiller was born May 29, 1922 on the farm where she would be raised at Pine Island Township. She was the daughter of Edward and Sophie (nee Bjugan) Stiller. She attended school at Goodhue County District 73, and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1940. She married John W. Ruegg in Columbia, South Carolina on December 11, 1943. Mrs. Ruegg was a homemaker for her family, and she considered it to be the most important job in her lifetime. She was named Goodhue County "Citizen of the Year" in 1987, and in the same year was honored by the Southeastern Area Agency with the award of "Most Outstanding Volunteer." She and her husband were Grand Marshals for the Pine Island Cheese Festival, also in 1987. She was an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and the Pine Island Senior Citizens. She was a longtime Craft Director and aerobic leader for the Senior Citizens, as well as its Treasurer. She was also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed oil painting, bridge, camping with her family, and traveling to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and most of the United States.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Carol (Harold) Rehling of Fairmont; four sons, John Bruce (Judy) Ruegg of Rochester, Roger Alfred (Jane Godfrey) Ruegg of Minneapolis, Ronald Edward (Debra) Ruegg of Alexandria, and Randall Lee (Carin) Ruegg of Lakeville; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer (Violet) Stiller; and a sister, Violet (Luverne) Koelsch, both of Zumbrota.

She was preceded in death by her husband in December 2007. Also preceding her were a brother, a sister, and a grandson.

Friends may call Friday November 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
