OBITUARY: Leila C. Bothun

Funeral service for Leila C. Bothun will be at 1PM on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Music will be provided by Marla Tupper, organist, Elissa Coady, soloist, and her grandchildren. Active casketbearers will be her grandchildren: Shawn, Samuel, Cora, Steven, Holden, Mikaela, Teagan and Kambia. Honorary casketbearer will be Nathaniel. Burial will take place at a later date following cremation.

Leila, age 69, of Mazeppa died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She was born Leila Cora Wendt on April 12, 1939 in Elba Township, Winona County, Minnesota to Arno and Leona (Walters) Wendt. She attended rural school at Wayside Country School in Elba Township and graduated from St. Charles High School. Leila attended Rochester Community College for two years and worked at Methodist Library in Rochester. Leila married Dale Bothun, on August 15, 1959 in Elba Township close to St. Charles. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Washington while Dale finished his tour of duty in the United States Air Force. They returned to St. Charles in 1960 briefly before moving to Dover and then to Rochester in 1966. Leila worked for Farm and Home in sales and they moved to rural Mazeppa in 1974. She worked in sales in Zumbrota and Mazeppa. Leila was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for 42 years and with various church organizations. She enjoyed golf, traveling, bowling, working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.

Leila is survived by her husband, Dale, of Mazeppa; one daughter Tamie (and the late Douglas) Kugler, of Watertown, MN; two sons: Bryon (Christine), of Winona and Brad, of Kimberly, WI; her grandchildren: Shawn (Julie), Samuel, Cora, Steven, Holden, Mikaela, Teagan, Kambia and Nathaniel; four great grandchildren: Greta, Sara, Eric and Andrew; two sisters: Nita (Don) Sutherland, of Wabasha and Bernice (Jim) Nienow, of St. Charles; two brothers: Kermit (Darlene) Wendt and Henry Wendt, all of St. Charles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arno and Leona and one son-in-law, Doug Kugler.

Visitation will be from 2-5PM on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour before service time at the church on Sunday.
