Lawrence “Bud” Frederick Pruter, 90, of Red Wing, Minnesota passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at Goodhue Assisted Living.
Bud was born July 4, 1932 at home in Gillford Township, Wabasha County to Chester and Viola (Fick) Pruter. He attended Boss School District 88 and Lincoln High School in Lake City. He worked on several farms in the area until he joined the U.S. Air Force in September of 1952. He served in Korea and Japan and was honorably discharged in September of 1956.
After his discharge he worked at the Red Wing Sewer Pipe, Red Wing Republican Eagle, and Thomas and Betts in Hager City, Wisconsin retiring in 1995.
Bud married Lois Ingeman January 25, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He enjoyed dancing, old time and country classic music and loved his hobby farm on Mill Road, especially working in his beautiful garden, mowing his lawn and caring for animals. He loved his family and enjoyed the holidays and visits from family and friends.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Boilermakers Lodge 647, and a lifetime member of Leo C. Peterson Post 54 American Legion.
He is survived by three children, Donna (Mitchell) Hokanson of Red Wing, Wayne (Dawn) of Red Wing, and Wendy (John) Langdon of Hudson, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Diane of Apple Valley; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Julia) Hokanson, Linsey (Ben) Uphoff, Megan (Eric) Dorr, Kyle (Jenna) Pruter, John Ross (Katherine) Langdon, Jay (Kailey) Langdon, and Allyssa (Tyler) Johnson; thirteen great-grandchildren, Henry Uphoff, Theo Uphoff, Francesca Uphoff, and Ryder Hokanson, Carsyn Johnson, Kylee Johnson, John Michael Langdon, Jalen Langdon, Mila Langdon, Neva Langdon, Jett Langdon, Max Dorr, and Macy Dorr; brothers, Earl Pruter of Rosemount and Marvin (Carla) Pruter of Wykoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois; son, Donald; sister, Betty Miller; and by his parents, Chester and Viola.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with visitation one hour before the service. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Inurnment will take place at Burnside Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
