Lawrence Zebaugh, age 80, of Rochester, passed away from complications of Frontal Temporal Dementia (a form of Alzheimers) on Thursday Jan. 26, 2017 at Cottagewood Senior Living where he had been a resident since December 2011.
Lawrence Wesley Zebaugh was born May 2, 1936 in Cresco, IA to Clayton and Irene (Henderson) Zebaugh. He attended Spring Valley Schools and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he worked for the Fillmore County Highway Department for 15 years. He later worked for 22 years as a Lab Technician for the Mayo Clinic. He married Irene Clark in 1959. They were later divorced. Children from that marriage are Eugene Zebaugh, Betsy Harasyn, Wesley Zebaugh, and Renee (Kevin) Meyer. Lawrence married Carole Hatle on September 20, 1968 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He loved gardening, reading, baking bread, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Lawrence volunteered his time generously at various organizations. He was Fillmore County DFL treasurer for two years, MN Farmers Union vice president for two years, Membership Evangelism Chair at Faith U.M. Church in Spring Valley, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, Homestead U.M. Church Confirmation teacher and Nursery volunteer, member of the Advisory Council for Mental Health, MADD Olmsted County volunteer, Samaritan Bethany volunteer, Bethany U.M. Church lawn care volunteer, and Olmsted County DFL volunteer.
Survivors include his wife Carole Zebaugh, five children David Zebaugh of Rochester; Deborah Gossman of Lincoln, MO; Dianne (Jerry) Mickelson of Sioux Falls, SD; MaryAnn (Steve) Jacob of Plainview, MN; and Laurie (Brian) Harvell of Zumbro Falls, MN; fifteen grandchildren Steven (Jade), Eric and Jennifer Duenes, Keythe Dietrich, Amanda, Trent, Jared, and Emily Jacob, Tristin, Hunter, and Nicholas Harvell, Kirstyn and Jennette Harasyn, and Alexa and Kristin Meyer, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Irene Zebaugh, and infant granddaughter Kaitlyn Dietrich.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, and one hour before the service on Monday, at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army Caring Partners Adult Day Care or the Alzheimers Association of Rochester. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Caring Partners, Cottagewood, and Seasons Hospice.
