Lawrence W. Darcy

Lawrence W. Darcy, age 99, of Mazeppa, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his daughter's residence in rural Mazeppa, where he resided for the past two months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Joseph Zabinski officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial in the church cemetery.
Lawrence William Darcy was born on February 24, 1917 in rural Mazeppa to Edward and Mary (Peters) Darcy and was one of nine children. He lived almost his entire life on the 4 Generation family farm, which was purchased by his grandfather Hugh Darcy in the late 1870s. He co-farmed with his brother, Edwin, for many years. They received a Century Farm designation in the 1980s. His daughter, Colleen and son-in-law, Denny Berg currently reside there, continuing on the family tradition. Lawrence married Edna Mehrkens on June 24, 1950 in Lake City. After retiring from farming, he and Edna moved into Mazeppa. She passed away in 2015.
Lawrence served as Chairman on the Board of Directors of Wabasha County ASCS for several years and was also an independent Insurance Agent for many years. Lawrence was also a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Wayne) Schafer and Colleen (Denny) Berg of Mazeppa; six grandchildren, Robin (Henry) Keller of Oak Center, Carrie Schafer and Andrew (Carrie L) Schafer of Mazeppa, Tracy (Aaron) Huppert of Hager City, Wi., Kristin Berg (Jesse Bishop) of Minneapolis, and Amanda (Ben) Sand of Mazeppa; and eight great-grandchildren, Noah and Maya Keller, Zailey and Deacon Schafer, Teagan and Crue Huppert, and Beckett and Laney Sand.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife; eight siblings; and great-grandson, Bennett Schafer.
Memorials preferred to Mayo Clinic Red Wing Hospice. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to their staff for the care and compassion that was offered to both Lawrence and his family.
