LaVonne M. Sibley age 80 of Zumbrota, formerly of the Wanamingo/Kenyon area died on Friday evening, July 3, 2009 at the Golden Living Center ? West in Rochester. Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Holden Lutheran Church with Rev. Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaVonne Mae Fieck was born in Rochester, MN on November 23, 1928 to William Carl Fieck(a section foreman for the Chicago Great Western Railroad) and his wife Eva(nee Northrup).
She was baptized into Christ at the Douglas Methodist Church, attended Sunday School at United Brethren of Rochester, And was Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran of Rochester. She attended school at Hawthorne Grade School, Rochester Central Junior High, and graduated in 1946 from Rochester High School.
Lavonne went on to become a bio-chemical technician at The Mayo Institute of Experimental Medicine and later as a lab and x-ray technician at Owatonna Hospital and the Olmsted Medical Group.
In 1957 LaVonne married David Eugene Sibley of Mazeppa and made a fulfilling lifetime career change as housewife and mother. They farmed in Mazeppa for several years before moving to the Goodhue/Minneola area.
In 1966 they moved to the Kenyon area and joined Holden Lutheran Church. Throughout the years LaVonne taught Sunday school, Bible school, Catechism, and Bethel Bible study; and was active in the Ladies Aid- serving as president one year.
In addition to her favorite pastime of playing with her grandchildren LaVonne also enjoyed collecting, sorting, and displaying her many treasures. She especially loved her collections of Barbie dolls, marbles, and buttons.
She is survived by one brother Richard C. Fieck; three sisters Elaine (Robert) Kreter,and Barbara (Marvin) Hemker, all of Rochester, Delores Grossbach of Zumbrota and one sister-in-law Wanda (Les) Bethke of Rochester; three sons David C. Sibley of Zumbrota, Sterling Sibley of Kenyon, and Charles Sibley of Mazeppa; three daughters Debra Sibley (Sam Daly) of Northfield, Jacqueline (Jeff) Ladsten of Rochester, and Melissa (Jack) Duden of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin.
11 grandchildren-Heather Sibley, Sarah Sibley, Meggan Loken, Shauna Sibley, Bridgette and Max Ladsten, Brian Brown, Ashley and Ben Duden, William and Waylon Sibley. 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers William and Howard Fieck; her husband David, one infant son Max, and one granddaughter Christy.
Memorials are preferred to be given to the Holden Women's ELCW and the Red Wing Salvation Army.
