Lavonne Eve Fischer

LaVonne Eve Fischer, 87, of Rochester passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 5, 2020.
LaVonne was born on April 30, 1933 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Roland and Eva (Bienfang) Blakewell. She graduated from Elroy High School in 1951. In 1956 she married Reverend Harold Fischer in Elroy, Wisconsin. The couple lived in various Wisconsin communities during their marriage where he served his various congregations. During that time their four children Anne, Jean, James and Julie were born. La Vonne was widowed in 1968 as Harold passed away from ALS. LaVonne moved to Rochester in 1970 and later attended Rochester Vocational school where she obtained her LPN degree. She worked at the Rochester State Hospital, and later at various Rochester nursing homes.
LaVonne was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rochester. Her family was the center of her life, and she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, her pets, nature and wildlife.
She is survived by her children Anne Fischer-Nicklay of LaCrosse, WI, Jean (Thomas) Wood of Rochester, James (Julie) Fischer of Onalaska, WI, and Julie (Kevin) Hughes of Spring, Texas; grandchildren Samuel Fischer, Lindsey Fischer, James (Kayla) Hughes and Matthew Hughes. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; and her longtime companion John Mooney Jr.
A memorial service for LaVonne will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning 30 minutes before the service. Innichement will follow the ceremony at Our Saviors Lutheran Church columbarium. Memorials are preferred for ALS research at ALSA.org or to Camp Companion (campcompanion.org) Animal rescue. Online condolences are welcome and may be written at mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
