LaVerne Albert Stuve

Funeral services for LaVerne "Vern" Stuve will be held Tuesday February 23rd at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco. The Reverend Paul Baldauf will officiate. Burial, at a later date, will be at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery near Rochester. Mr. Stuve, 81, of Rochester, died Thursday February 18, 2010 surrounded by his family at home.

LaVerne Albert Stuve was born December 7, 1928 in Rochester, the son of August and Esther Stuve. He was raised on the family farm near Rochester. Mr. Stuve owned and operated his own livestock trucking business. In 1956 he began driving for Greyhound Bus Line, and in 1958 began driving for Jefferson Lines, from which he retired in 1990. During his working years he also farmed on the family's home farm. He married Reva Ann Hertsgaard on October 15, 1977 in Ankeny, Iowa. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco, the Eagles' Lodge, Lions' Club, and the Greyhound Bus Drivers' Retirees.

He is survived by his wife, Reva Ann Stuve of Rochester; sons, David (Shirley) Stuve and Richard (Mary) Stuve, both of Rochester; stepdaughters, Kathleen (Lance) Ferris of Oswego, Illinois, Dena Hertsgaard of Des Moines, Iowa, and Bonnie (Ivan) Landsverk of Ankeny, Iowa; a stepson Floyd Hertsgaard of Des Moine, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Ella) Stuve of Show Low, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, and a sister.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
