LaVerne "Toad" Louis Fanslow, 88, of Red Wing died Saturday, April 16, 2011 after a short illness. He was born on July 21, 1922 in Red Wing to Fredrick and Marie (Lemke) Fanslow. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1941. On December 20, 1944 he was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Weberg. He farmed and also owned and operated Red Wing Implement from 1954 up until the time of his death. Ginny died on October 14, 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, fishing, especially going to Pickle Lake in Canada for the past 20 years and playing cards. Each morning he would go to Bev's Café for breakfast. His family recalls how giving he was and was always there to help someone out. He was a true inspiration to his family and never complained. He gave unconditional love to his family.
Survivors include four children, Fay Fanslow of Ellsworth, Frederick (Marcianne) Fanslow of Red Wing, Krissie (Jon) Jeresek of Libby, Mont. and Charles (Debra) Fanslow of Red Wing; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Alissa and Mark Fanslow, Jacob and Jinnifer Jeresek and Bentley and Jared Fanslow; three great grandchildren, Cazzandra, Bryanna and Ethan Fanslow and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ginny; one brother, Melvin; one sister, Evelyn Herman; one grandson, Brian Fanslow and one great grandson, Benjamyn Fanslow.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and the church for one hour prior to the service.
