Laurie Lee Vold

Laurie Lee Vold, age 56, of Welch, died Friday, October 4, 2013 at her residence. Laurie was born July 11, 1957 in Fairbanks, AK to Ronald and Alys (Raihle) Melton. She lived in Alaska for seven years before moving to Chippewa Falls, WI where she graduated High School. She attended the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire for two years then transferred to the Cardinal Stritch University, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Business. She worked for Clark Oil as the district Sales Manager. On January 11, 1986 she married Steven Vold in Red Wing. Laurie then worked at Jostens and 15 years at 3M in St. Paul. While working she received an Associate's Degree in Horticulture from Dakota County Technical College. Laurie was a foster mother to children as well as animals for the Animal Allies of Red Wing. She was a strong member of the Steel Workers Union. She enjoyed fishing, spending time in the sun, and pontooning, at their cabin. She also loved to read and often read a full book in one night. She loved flowers, which she had an abundance of on her deck and gardening, which she sold at the farmers market in Red Wing.

She is survived by her husband Steve; children, Mandy (Cole) Eckhoff , Aaron Vold both of Red Wing, Ashley Vold of Minneapolis; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Alys Melton; sister, Dana Melton; infant brother, Donald Melton.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
