Laura M. Jewell age 98 of Pine Island died on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island with Father Randal Kasel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the church.
Laura Marie Konen was born on August 8, 1917 in Pierz, MN to Frank and Mary (nee Frederick) Konen. She attended country school and Bemidji State. She taught school for several years at Buh Country School. Laura moved to Pine Island in 1947 and married Daniel Jewell in 1948. She became a legal secretary and worked with various lawyers for twenty-four years and retired in 1986. Laura enjoyed cooking, growing orchids, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with family.
Laura is survived by her children, Mary Lee (Doyle) Laird of Somerville, TN, Daniel (Paula) Jewell of Pine Island and Jeff (Christine) Jewell of Erie, PA; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Sporlein of Chicago, IL.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Candy Hall; four brothers and two sisters.
Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
