Laura Mae Allen was born on September 24, 1912 in Union Springs, NY to William T. and Susie M. (nee King) Allen. Laura's mother died when Laura was a young child and she helped raise her siblings. Helping with her siblings gave Laura the strength to appreciate family and she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family, including updating the family genealogy book up until the time of her death. On May 2, 1936 she married Clinton E. Cook in Penn Yan, NY. The lived in New York and Clinton died on February 16, 1977. Laura continued to live on their one half acre estate, caring for the yard and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Laura moved to Pine Island in 1997. Laura loved music, playing the piano, gardening, baking, fishing, flying with her son Ken, crocheting and working with her craft group to make hundreds of blankets that were distributed to worthy causes and organizations. Laura was a loving supporter of Camp Victory and enjoyed her church. She was a giving woman, but had an independent nature that allowed her to stay mentally sharp, be self sufficient and overcome breast cancer two times. Laura is survived by her children, Kenneth Cook of Pine Island and Janet (Dwight) Pfeifer of FL; grandchildren, Wesley (Elizabeth) Cook, Wilson (Debra) Cook, Walter (Jane) Cook, Warren (Melanie) Cook, Harold (Stella) Phoenix, Jeffrey Phoenix, William (Trisha) Phoenix and Scott (Jennifer) Phoenix; twenty great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and sister, Eunice Bornt of Crozet, VA. Laura was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy, Robert and Louie Allen and one sister, Grace Saxton. The family suggests memorials to the Pine Island Area Home Services or Camp Victory.
