Larry L. Larsen

April 24, 1943 — December 27, 2017

Larry Lyle Larsen, age 74, of Goodhue died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in Casa Grande, Arizona, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 24, 1943, to Lawrence and Arlene (Petersen) Larsen in Kasson, MN, he grew up on the family farm in Kalmar Township, Olmsted County. Larry attended Bethel country school and graduated from Byron High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in June, 1966, with a degree in Agriculture Education. He taught for one year in Houston, MN, and then in Goodhue from 1967-1975. He married Marilyn Morem in December, 1967; they later divorced. On March 3, 1979, he married Jane Marie Kraft in Marshall, MN, and they made their home in Goodhue. Jane died on September 1, 2007.
In 1974 Larry co-founded Voth & Larsen agri-business in Goodhue, and in 1983 he established Larsen Industries Vinyl and Farm Supply, which he has operated since. Larry was a former member of the Jaycees and an original founder of Goodhue Volksfest. He has been an active member of the Goodhue Lions Club since 1970, with 47 years perfect attendance. He has been a longtime supporter of the Future Farmers of America and 4-H Clubs of Goodhue County. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue and served on the Goodhue City Council for 20 years. Larry enjoyed the challenge of Sudoku puzzles. He said it kept his mind sharp, and was so proud when he solved a 5-star puzzle!
Larry is survived by loving partner Ramona Purnell of Kasson and Casa Grande; siblings Anita Nelsen of Byron; Barbara (Edward) Kuhlman of Northfield; Paul, David, Janis (Dave) Brooks, and John (Robin), all of Mantorville; and Jary of San Francisco. Survivors also include his aunt Gail Berge of Kasson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Lois Kraft; sisters-in-law Sandy Cooper, Susan Alley, and Betty Hanenberger; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Jane, parents Lawrence & Arlene, brothers Peter and Bob, brother-in-law Vernon Nelsen, grandparents Alfred & Ella (Jensen) Larsen and Floyd & Bernice (Brandli) Petersen.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Ron Go and his staff in Hematology, and Dr. Paul Altrichter for their loving support in caring for Larry. We are also grateful to his dedicated employee and friend, Pamela Dahl, for her many years of service and assistance to Larry.
