Larry Dean Englund, 71, of Red Wing, died Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Fairview Red Wing Seminary Home. He was born June 25, 1935 in Red Wing to Lawrence and Pearl (Strothman) Englund and attended school in Red Wing. On September 21, 1953 he joined the US Army and served until he was honorably discharged in June of 1955. He married Carolyn Riley on September 20, 1958 in Minneapolis. In 1971 they moved to Red Wing. For the past 18 years, he had worked as a custodian in the Red Wing School District. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW #1218, Leo C. Peterson American Legion #845 and the DAV. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and his pets. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Red Wing; three children, Mark (Terry), Daniel (Misty) and Julie Englund all of Red Wing; six grandchildren; and one sister, Donna (Roger) Gilbertson of Beldenville, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Michael and one brother, Vincent. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Desiree Juaire, Ashley and Alissa Miller, Jed Peterson and Hailey and Trevor Englund. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church, Goodhue County Humane Society or American Diabetes Association.
