Larry Van Deusen

Laurence "Larry" Frederick Van Deusen, 63, of Hager City, passed away June 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born July 7, 1950, in Red Wing, to Laurence and Vernetta (Greeley) Van Deusen. He grew up in Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1969. On September 25, 1976, he married Denise Rodriguez in Christ Episcopal Church. He worked at the Xcel Energy Red Wing Steam Plant until the time of his death; a total of 27 years. Larry enjoyed going to Twins games and Beach Boy concerts. He enjoyed working outside and working in his garden. He loved watching old movies and movies about history. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all of his family, especially his granddaughters. He will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity and for his willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Denise Van Deusen; two daughters, Missy (Brian) Filkins of River Falls, Wis., and Crissy (Allen) Knowles of Shakopee; two granddaughters, Anna and Abby Filkins; siblings, Leola (Rodney) Lohman of Goodhue, Jeanne (Joe) Lopez of Cannon Falls and Steve (Char) Van Deusen of Red Wing; sisters-in-law, Diana (Bruce) Rasmussen of Prescott, Wis., Deborah Gloria of Kansas; mother-in-law, Viola (Edward) Grant of Red Wing; father-in-law, Rod (Lynn) Rodriguez of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel with Reverend Barbara von Haaren officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
