L. Duane Walbridge

L. Duane Walbridge, 78, of Red Wing, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Ebenezer Deer Crest. He was born on November 19, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Louis and Ruby (DeVries) Walbridge. He graduated in 1958, from Creston High School in Grand Rapids and attended Grand Rapids Junior College. He served in the US Air Force from 1961-1965. On November 19, 1966, he married Judy Weberg at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Esdaile in a double ceremony with Judy's twin sister Jane and husband, Harland Schultz. In 2016, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. For a few years Duane and Judy lived in Grand Rapids where he worked for Lear Sigler Company in electronics. In 1970, they moved to Red Wing where he worked for 36 years as a Goodhue County Appraiser, retiring in 2006. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he served in various roles including elder, Sunday school superintendent and trustee. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and working on projects around the house. Duane liked helping others and was great at finding ways to fix things. His faith and family were very important to him.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy; three daughters, Karen (Kent) Fairbairn and Sandy (Jon) Clay all of Richfield, Minnesota, and Julie (Nathan) Harnly of Red Wing; nine grandchildren, Lisha, Ethan and Derek Fairbairn, Miriam, Tyler and Rachel Clay and Luke, Alice and David Harnly; two sisters, Nancy (Brian) Welch of Caledonia, Michigan, and Carol (Skip) Young of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant grandson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend Tyge Zucker officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church or the Mayo Red Wing Hospice. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
