L. Dean Olcott

August 9, 1930 — November 28, 2015

L. Dean Olcott, 85, of Waynesville, OH, passed away on Saturday, November 28th, 2015 at the Otterbein Home in Lebanon, OH. Funeral service will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Goodnews Evangelical Free Church, 208 N Main St., Pine Island. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 4pm-7pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel, 209 1st Ave NW, Pine Island and on Friday beginning at 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Lunch will follow the Burial at the Pine Island American Legion.
Lewis Dean Olcott was born on August 9th, 1930 (at 5pm) in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Lewis T. and Edna (Wolfe) Olcott. He was an elementary school teacher in Ohio and Rochester, MN for 43 years. He attended Good News Evangelical Church in Pine Island. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950's, received his Bachelor's degree in Education from The Ohio State University and his Master's Degree from Kent State University (Ohio).

He enjoyed staying active, being outdoors, and rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes. He served as a volunteer basketball coach and track coach for Rochester Public Schools and Pine Island Schools for many years and was involved with various church activities in Rochester and Pine Island. He spent his retired years gardening, working on the farm, biking around town, attending high school sporting events, and reading at the library.

He is survived by his children: Mark Olcott of Rochester, MN; Betty Martinez of Vancouver, Washington; Cathy (Mark) Cocker of Brooklyn Center, MN; Matt (Cath) Olcott of Afton, WY; Brenda (Jamie) McKinney of Waynesville, OH; Bradley (Yalda) Olcott of Minnetonka, MN; and Bryan Olcott of Honolulu, HI; sister, Evelyn Perkins of Columbus, OH; and four grandchildren: Sean Martinez, Jennifer Cocker, Brian Cocker, and Annabel McKinney.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve; and brother, Dale.
