Kevin Louis VanDe Walker, 61, of Wanamingo, died on Saturday, September 26, 2020, as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was born on November 2, 1958 in Elmhurst, IL to John and Eva (Sommerfield) VanDe Walker. He graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1977. He attended Red Wing VoTech for instrument repair, where he met Julie. They had one daughter, Ashley, before Julie was taken too soon. Fortunately, a few years later, he met Lisa and gained his only son, Jesse. They were married at the Little Brown Church in Iowa and resided in Mazeppa until they bought their first home in Wanamingo. A couple years later, Micala was born, and after seven years, they were blessed with their last child, Mara. Kevin and Lisa were married for 25 years and later divorced. Two years ago, Kevin met Rachel Lange and her children at Polar Camp. They were engaged on June 23, 2019. Kevin dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Boy Scouts of America Wanamingo Troop 76 as a scout master. He held various other positions in the Scouts, including Gamehaven Council Wakpota District Eagle Advancement Chairman, and received the distinguished Silver Beaver Award. He was involved in Habitat for Humanity through Wanamingo Lutheran Church and was a past member of the Lion’s Club. Kevin was an avid golfer and an avid western movie watcher. He loved classic cars, especially working on them with his son, Jesse. As he got older, he found his love for Harleys.
Kevin is survived by his four children, Jesse (Amy) Anderson, Ashley (Chris) Anderson, Micala (Dustin) VanDe Walker, and Mara VanDe Walker; mother, Eva VanDe Walker; eight grandchildren, Ana, Camryn, Lincoln, Alexis, James, Charleigh, Andie, and Brynn; siblings, Larry (Sherree), Kathy, Jerry (Jackie), Sandra, and Kurt; fiancé, Rachel Lange and her sons, Randy and Mike; his two rescue dogs, Buddy and Sully; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father and Ashley’s mother, Julie.
