Kermit M. Siems, age 86 of Mazeppa died on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. A private family graveside will be held at the Mazeppa Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #588 and the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard.
Kermit Marvin Siems was born on March 24, 1929 in Mazeppa, MN to F. John and Mildred B. (nee Clemens) Siems. He grew up in Mazeppa and attended Mazeppa Schools. Kermit worked for Gregoire Electric for several years and helped his father in the carpentry business. On August 28, 1951 he entered the U.S. Army. While on leave, he married Grace J. Reinholz on December 26, 1951 in Mazeppa. Kermit served in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1953. He returned to Mazeppa, worked in carpentry with his father and together with his wife Grace, started their family. Kermit continued to do carpentry work until he retired. Kermit was also the sexton for the Mazeppa Cemetery for forty years and donated countless hours setting and repairing markers and monuments, trimming trees, fixing fence and filling in sunken areas. Kermit enjoyed woodworking feeding the squirrels and birds, caring for his many cat families and spending time with family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching western shows and movies. Kermit was a member of American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa.
Kermit is survived by his wife Grace; children, Jeffrey (Susan) Siems of Maquoketa, IA, Douglas (Kathleen Kritta) Siems of Roseville, Dana Siems of Mazeppa, Jeannine (Kevin) McGurren of Rochester and Donald Siems of Mazeppa; grandsons, Eric and James Siems; brother, Quentin (Charlene) Siems of Mazeppa; nephew, Brock Siems and niece, Krista Siems.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie C. Siems.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
