Kent Loren Borgstrom, age 68, died at home surrounded by his family on September 5, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN with Pastor Schoch officiating. Burial will follow at Zumbrota Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with a time to share memories at 7 p.m. and visitation for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Kent was born on September 3, 1941 in St. Paul, MN to Loren and Lorraine (Johns) Borgstrom. He grew up on the Borgstrom Farm in Pine Island, MN where he graduated then entered the Navy in 1959. On October 26, 1963, he married Arlis P. Buck of Zumbrota. They made their first home in Pine Island before moving to Rochester then to Kasson. In 1987, Kent and his family relocated to Phoenix, AZ where Kent absolutely loved the weather, mountains, and scenery. He and his wife lived there for 10 years before moving back to MN in 1997 and making Zumbrota their home to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
On return from the Navy, Kent worked on a sewer line out of Kasson then with his dad for Gainley Construction. He worked for a short time for Hess Lumber then purchased and ran the Mobile Gas Station in Pine Island. Kent then worked for Marigold Dairy for 20 years and after back surgery and moving to Arizona, he became a manager for Walgreens Liquor Store. He thoroughly enjoyed that job as he loved helping the customers. After returning to Zumbrota, MN to reside, Kent worked in the warehouse at IBM until he retired in 2004 due to emphysema and lung cancer surgery.
Kent enjoyed tinkering around on anything and everything, loved being outside in his garage hanging out, really like hunting throughout the earlier years as well as going to the lake or river boating with his family, enjoyed working on cars, riding his scooter around town, and was crazy about duct tape. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, deeply cared for his dog Jesse, and totally and endlessly loved and cherished his grandchildren as they all continually put huge smiles on his face.
Kent is survived by his loving wife, Arlis; loving and devoted children, Brett (Marie) of Kasson; Cara (Travis) Ristau of Preston; and Shanna (special friend, Shane Jackson) of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Mark Alzamora, Kora and Zachary Possehl, Kylie and Makenna Borgstrom, Ryan Borgstrom, Ajay and Jersey Ristau, and Samantha Borgstrom; a brother, Keith of Ellsworth, WI; step-brothers, Larry (Janelle) Kundert of Pine Island and Jim (Janet) Kundert of Ramsey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Lorraine; step-mother Vera Campbell; brothers, Neil, Craig, and Lynn; grandchild; Kaden; and nephew, Scott.
