Kenneth Orlyn Peterman of Pine Island passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday January 13, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester at the age of 78 years old. He was born on October 29, 1943 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Richard Sr. and Henrietta (Fitchen) Peterman. His family lived in the Red Wing area until the age of 4, when his parents bought a farm near Zumbrota. Ken graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1961. He joined the National Guard. On September 4, 1964 Ken married the love of his life Carol (Berg) and the couple had four children. Ken was talented in many different trades through his life working for plumbing, lumber, livestock, and small engine repair business. Ken farmed for many years outside of Pine Island with the help from his wife and the kids. He enjoyed his snowmobile getaways and motorcycle trip to Sturgis.
Towards the end of milking cows and farming Ken drove semi and completed his working years with MNDOT. They later sold the farm and retired in the country. After the retirement Ken enjoyed the Zumbro Valley Classic Iron and the Pine Island Lions’ Annual Tractor Drive, Plow Days, enjoying coffee and conversation with the tractor boys, and the tractor swap meet shows. Ken would spend a lot of time on the computer reading the Yesterday’s Tractor website on anything and everything about tractors and machinery. Ken enjoyed the outdoors going on countryside tours looking at the crops and the farms. He was asked by many people about tractor and machinery parts because of his knowledge; Ken’s days were always brightened when the grandchildren would visit and spend time with him.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Carol, he is survived by his children Pennie (Jim) Goplen, Tammie (Tom) Johnson, Julie (Loren) Anderson, and Jacob (Connie) Peterman; 8 grandchildren, Mandi Goplen (Glen), Kim Goplen (Adam), Becky Goplen (Cody), Cody Johnson (Melinda), Josh Johnson, Dylan (Sarah) Johnson, Dean Anderson (Shelby), and Shelby Stuve (Ben). Six great-grandchildren, Christian, Leah, Shannon, Braxton, Savannah, and Felicity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Richard Jr. (Sonny), Luverne, Dean, Iver. Sister-in-law Susan, a nephew Keith, and father-in-law Palmer Berg.
