Kenneth Frederick Johnson

June 5, 1918 — September 25, 2016

Kenneth F. Johnson, 98, of Red Wing died on Sunday, September 25, 2016. He was born on June 5, 1918 to C.A.M. and Anna (nee Nelson) Johnson in Red Wing where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School and went on to attend Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1940. Also in 1940, he married the love of his life, Madeline Angell, in Iowa City where she was going to school. He served in the Coast Guard Reserve and then in General Patton's III Army during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he went back home to Red Wing and co-owned and operated Johnson and Meyer Clothing with his family. At various times he was the president of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the Library Board. While he was president of the Library Board he oversaw the funding and construction of the new library. He was also involved with the YMCA Board, Red Wing Charter Commission, the Goodhue County Historical Society board, and was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. His other hobbies included boating and duck hunting. He was a loving force in his family. His sons' education was very important to him. He made many things possible for his children and grandchildren. He loved and was loved by all members of his family.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Mark F. (Dr. Sue) Johnson of Arizona and Dr. Randall D. (Dr. Dorothy Whitmer) Johnson of Minnesota; brother, Donald C. Johnson of Red Wing; grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Kelly) Johnson, Nolan (Hannah) Johnson, Dr. Regan (Dr. Brian) Bergmark, and Dr. Kara (Dr. Zach) Wegermann; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Annika, Maxwell, Reed, Blaise, and Axel.
He is preceded by his wife, Madeline; and his parents.
A visitation will be held from 5-7p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Private family burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Potter Ridge and Heartland Hospice.
