Kenneth T. Henderson age 88 of Zumbrota, formerly of rural Wanamingo died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Holden Lutheran Church in rural Kenyon with Pastor Heather Culuris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kenneth Thomas Henderson was born on June 8, 1922 in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, MN to Henry and Thora (nee Holm) Henderson. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Ken attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul for one year. He farmed with his parents and on October 31, 1948 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Smith in Rochester. The first part of Ken's life was spent farming on the family farm in Wanamingo Township. In 1968 he sold the dairy cows, rented out the farmland and started his second career as a truck driver. Ken was an owner/operator for seventeen years, driving for Midwest Specialized Transportation of Rochester. In 1985 he retired from driving truck, but continued driving, this time it was tractors and other equipment on his son's farm. Ken and Betty loved to travel, visiting many states and a favorite trip to Norway. Betty passed away on October 13, 1996. Ken moved to the Bridges of Zumbrota in 2007.
Ken was very active in his community, holding various offices at Holden Lutheran Church, serving as the Wanamingo Township Clerk for twenty five years and driving the elderly to appointments. He was an agent for Wanamingo Mutual Insurance Company, serving as treasurer from 1968-1996 and as a director from 1961-2001. Ken was also a member of the Wanamingo Lions Club.
Ken is survived by his son, Thomas (Mary) Henderson of Zumbrota; three grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Henderson of Rochester, Mamie (Paul) Luhmann of Zumbro Falls and Carrie (Perry) Dohrn of Zumbrota and four great-grandchildren, Sophia Henderson, Clara Luhmann, Colby and Chase Dohrn.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, son, Daniel; great-granddaughter, Abigail Henderson and sister, Dorothy Johnson. Honorary bearers are Eric and Amy Henderson, Mamie and Paul Luhmann and Carrie and Perry Dohrn. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
