Kenneth "Kenny" Herman Ahlers, 76, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Lake City Nursing Home. He was born on March 24, 1935 in Lake City to Martin and Margaret Florence (Busch) Ahlers. He grew up in Lake City and attended McCahill. He then helped his father farm and later worked at Culligan. He married LaVonne Kilgrain and they later divorced. Kenny started working in drywall, block work and cement, then found his niche in replacing basements and foundations of existing buildings. He owned and operated Ken Ahlers Construction for 46 years. He married Linda Watson on May 20, 1974 at the Episcopal Church in Lake City. He enjoyed going on day trips with Linda in his classic cars.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Lake City; two sons, Greg Ahlers of Lake City and Al (Jean) Ahlers of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Shawn, Jessica, Josie, Mari, and Zaccheus; sisters, Margaret Hansen of Rochester, Marcile (Dick) Esboldt of Pine City, Mary (Al) Bowers of Eden Prairie; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
