With profound sorrow and heartbreak, we announce the passing of Katie Jan Peterson, mother to Gracie and Gavin, wife to Corey, founder and operator of Personal Training with KT, and friend and inspiration to a community. Katie passed away very unexpectedly at her home on Monday, November 18, 2019.
Katie Jan Burdick was born to Ralph and Jane (Reiland) Burdick in Zumbrota, MN on May 20, 1981, the second in age but not in spunk to older brother Dale. Affectionately and perpetually nicknamed "Birdie" by friends and family, she graduated from Pine Island High School in 1999.
Katie was tireless about education through the course of her life, earning an Associates of Science Degree from Rochester Community College in 2002, a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics from UW-Stout Wisconsin in 2004, a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania in 2005, and an almost finished doctorate in Neuropathic Medicine from Trinity College.
Katie dedicated herself to holistic wellness personally and professionally. She founded Personal Training with KT in 2006 with the motto "No Problems, Only Solutions," which emulated her mindset as a formidable businessowner and personal trainer. In the course of 13 years, she expanded to three locations in Rochester, Kenyon and Wanamingo, gained certifications as a Natural Health Practitioner and NETA personal trainer, and trained and coached 100s of clients in nutrition and fitness. Through her work, she had a lasting impact on many lives.
Katie married Corey Peterson in May 26, 2013, following the birth of their daughter Gracie Jane May 1, 2012. Her son, Gavin Matthew, was born March 13, 2014. Above all else, Katie was a devoted and doting mother; her children were her world. She was also a faithful Boxer owner to dogs Finn and Motzey.
Katie will be remembered for everything she gave and everything she embodied: dedication, positivity, tenacity, beauty, passion, generosity, and humor. She had an unrelenting spirit, infectious laugh, and unequaled energy. She will be deeply missed.
Katie is survived by her husband, Corey; children, Gracie and Gavin; parents, Ralph and Jane Burdick of Mazeppa; brother, Dale (Darla) Burdick and their son, Derek, all of Pine Island; grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Peterson of Pine Island; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Harriet Peterson of Wanamingo; brothers-in-law, Chad (Nicole) Peterson and their children, Paislee, Brailee and Kinslee all of Zumbrota and Curt (Heidi) Peterson and their children, Maya and Hattie all of Lakeville, her dog, Finn; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Join us in remembering this incredible woman on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 6:00 PM with the service to follow at 6:00 PM. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Mazeppa.
