Kathryn Louise Bucher, age 83, of Zumbrota, MN passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 17, 1941, in Crete, Nebraska to Irma (Ecker) and Bernard Horky.
She worked as a homemaker and bookkeeper for many years. Layne and Kathy had a beautiful partnership. He was the dreamer and she was the doer and put all his dreams into reality. She sold mini donuts to put her kids through college. In 1988 they started the Dairy Queen in Zumbrota which they have owned and operated for 37 years. They also operated a mini storage business and a business complex in Zumbrota.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Layne Bucher of Zumbrota; her three children (and their spouses), Steve (Linda) Bucher of West Concord, Joan (Dan Thoreson) Bucher of Zumbrota, and John (Sandi) Bucher of Kasson; as well as her grandchildren, Jacob Bucher, Shelby (Chris) Schley, Sara (Maclan) Bushlack, Vincent Thoreson, Kari Thoreson, Paige Bucher, and Megan Bucher; and great-grandchildren, Harper Schley, Adeline Bushlack, and Hadley Schley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irma and Bernard Horky and her brothers, James Horky and David Horky.
Kathy had a heart filled with love and faith in God. She was kind, gentle, and compassionate. She loved spending time with her family, baking, gardening, and being in nature. She was an active member of St. Vincent De Paul’s Catholic Church in West Concord, MN and St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Zumbrota, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at The Church of St. Paul in Zumbrota with Father Randal Kasel officiating. Burial will be at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to The Church of St. Paul or Mayo Hospice. Online condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com. Her family and friends will miss her dearly but find comfort in the countless memories of her love and kindness.
