Kathleen Lavon Lund

Kathleen Lavon Lund, age 87, of Lake City, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. She was called home to her Lord at her residence surrounded by her family and close friend. She was born on January 11, 1925 in Comfrey MN. She grew up in Roscoe Township on the family farm with her parents George and Gitta ( Hoven) Thoreson. She attended country school and later graduated from Zumbrota High School. After completing high school she attended St. Olaf College for three years. On June 8, 1946 she married Eugene Lund at Stordahl Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota. The couple lived in Minneapolis for a short time until moving to Zumbrota, where Kathleen helped care for family, neighbors, and anyone in need. When Eugene retired in 1980 they moved to the Brainerd lakes area and wintered in Brownsville, TX. When Eugene's health began to decline in 2002 they moved to Lake City to be closer to their daughter. Eugene died on March 13, 2005. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, women's Bible study, LWML, senior's group at church, and the Brainerd area Lioness and Women's Clubs. She enjoyed sewing, boating, fishing, golfing and bowling. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Vikings and the Twins. Over the years she taught Sunday school, was a Girl Scout leader and sang in the church choir.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Blumberg of Lake City; grandchildren, Laura Ann (Steve) Poitra of Kalispell, MT and Michael (Brooke Fahrenkrog) Blumberg of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Beatrix and Oliver Poitra; special nieces, Kerry Rude of Zumbrota, Randi (Neil) Hansen of Corcoran, Emily (Neal) Higgins of Maple Grove, Sara (Terry) Hansen of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Gitta (Hoven) Thoreson; husband, Eugene.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Scott Fiege officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel is assisting the family with the cremation. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials for Bethany Lutheran Church, Mayo Hospice-Wabasha, or American Cancer Society. Kathleen's family would like to thank the Mayo Hospice-Wabasha for their help and care for Kathleen.
